Meeting with President of Uganda and Tony Elumelu
Mr. Tony Elumelu, the founder of Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP) was in Uganda on the 10th May 2016. During his visit he met the Uganda TEEP alumni 2015 and TEEP participants 2016. During his speech he emphasized that the youth should not focus only on money that is given as seed capital but build ideas that can revolutionize their communities, to create more jobs, save the environment as well as add value to existing products / services. This meeting took place at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
After meeting the TEEP beneficiaries in Uganda, he went to visit the President of the Republic of Uganda, Mr. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni alongside a selected 30 youth with community impact projects. Muwonge Alex the founder of Design for Charity and beneficiary of TEEP – was among the youth selected to meet with the president. In a high -level discussion, the President shared about the willingness of the government to work with young entrepreneurs to foster innovation and value addition. He encouraged the entrepreneurs present to take lead in various value chains through processing and manufacturing. From this meeting I learnt that there are several government initiatives that youth can take advantage of and Design for Charity will continue to share and empower youth to take on such opportunities.
